Cotto-Margarito 2: As Personal as It Gets!

For fight fans everywhere, there is a very good reason to want to see the rematch this weekend between Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto and Mexico’s Antonio Margarito. That reason is a sense that justice was somehow skirted by Margarito following the loss of his license in California due to illegal hand wrap inserts, containing elements of Plaster of Paris his trainer, Javier Capetillo, inserted prior to Margarito’s 2009 match with Shane Mosley.

The inserts were detected by Mosley’s trainer, Naazim Richardson, prior to the bout but removed and Margarito was stopped by Mosley in the ninth round. From that moment on, Margarito has been cast in a shadow of doubt, his career suspected of being as tainted as the wraps his trainer attempted to embed within his wraps.

For most boxers, that would be the end of the story. A subsequent revocation of his and Capetillo’s licenses by the California State Athletic Commission, a year of solitude in Mexico and the scorn and doubt of fight fans everywhere made it seem as if Antonio Margarito would never fight again.

This Cotto-Margarito 2nd fight would be as exciting as ever before as both fighters promises more action and war. Miguel Cotto all focus for this fight and he wanted to shut off all of his critics by knocking Antonio Margarito out. Cotto believes that he has the power and maturity to take Margarito out.

Antonio Margarito on his part is more decisive as what on his mind is that he can do it again in a more brutal way than their first fight. Margarito believes that with his size and power, he will retire Miguel Cotto at any given moment.Antonio Margarito will be a force and too much for Miguel Cotto come fight night and this will go down in the history as one of the most bloody and brutal fight in boxing.

Cotto-Margarito 2: Miguel Cotto to defeat Antonio Margarito this time?

The night was July 26th 2008 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas when Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito the two great warriors squared off in what turned out to be an instant classic that would not only warrant a rematch, but have more gasoline added to the fire with a “Plaster of Paris” like substance found in Margarito’s hand wraps some 6 months later.

The fight not only lived up to the style match up of the Mexican vs. Puerto Rican rivalry buzz, but it also turned out to be one of the best fights in the last 5 years. Three and half years later we have the same style match up that should be at least a solid action fight if not a full out brawl again. We know Miguel Cotto will use his jab and Antonio Margarito will be coming straight at Cotto.

The question will be does Miguel Cotto have the patience to stick to a game plan using his jab, going to the body, and throwing more combinations? Will he use more subtle movement or at least pivot and reset instead of getting into exchanges?

This could be a guarantee that all fight fans will have their expectations that this fight is a war of the two fighters that only thing in mind is winning. Cotto-Margarito 2 on December 3, 2011.
